SHAPE is an interdisciplinary research center promoting democracy and citizenship in a world of data, algorithms, and artificial intelligence. The aim is to contribute to a responsible and democratic digital transformation through interdisciplinary research collaborations, participation in public debate, and active involvement of civil society.
Digitalization brings both new opportunities and challenges for democracy. On the one hand, new communities and opportunities for participation emerge, but on the other hand, a new democratic fragility arises with new forms of vulnerability, inequality, and polarization.
SHAPE's ambition is to contribute to a responsible and democratic digitalization by creating research-based solutions that promote inclusion, knowledge, dialogue, and welfare in a digitalized society.
