In this brown bag seminar, Eva Mayerhöffer will introduce ongoing research designed to map and model information flows on digital platforms. Eva will present how she and her group work with different types of digital trace data and computational methods such as network analysis, NLP, and agent-based modelling - and deal with the challenges of wanting to do it all in small and multi-language environments and across multiple platforms. Finally, Eva will discuss, how a large-scale information flow perspective can be used to study the curation of alternative, hyperpartisan and anti-systemic content, the role of cross-cutting information, and the formation of digital echo chambers.

About Eva Mayerhöffer
Eva Mayerhöffer is an associate professor of political journalism and comparative media studies at the Department of Communication and Arts (DCA), Roskilde University (RUC).
In her research, she studies how different types of alternative news and information on digital platforms can contribute to political engagement and identity formation – as well as to political polarization, radicalization, and misinformation.
Currently, she leads three research projects that explore polarization dynamics on social media, ideological counter-publics, and digital alternative news use, funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark and the Carlsberg Foundation.
