New paper on generative AI and creativity
Peter Dalsgaard has had his paper, "Creative Ambiguity and Cognitive Tension in Generative Artificial Intelligence Tools," accepted for the European Conference on Cognitive Ergonomics 2025.

Generative AI tools are increasingly becoming part of the creative process, but their results do not always match user expectations. Often, they appear unclear, contradictory, or simply unexpected. However, this tension between expectations and output is not necessarily a flaw, but can instead inspire reflection and new thinking.
Some key points from the article are:
- AI's unexpected output can generate new ideas and perspectives.
- Dissonance and ambiguity can be a driving force for creative development.
- AI tools should not only be optimized for precision, but also support interpretation and reflection.
- Creativity often arises in encounters with the unexpected, not only through control and certainty.
Instead of viewing AI as a technology that must deliver precise results, the article argues that we should begin to understand it as a partner in the creative process—a partner that does not always hit the mark, but which opens the door to new possibilities.
