Digital participation of young people with disabilities
Like other young people, those with disabilities utilize social media platforms to interact with others, present themselves in relevant contexts, and seek inspiration in areas pertinent to them. Associate Professors Louise Bøttcher and Stine Liv Johansen will share their research, focusing on inquiries such as: How do young people with disabilities perceive representation and identification on platforms like Instagram and TikTok? How do they leverage the unique features of social media to communicate about their daily experiences? Furthermore, how does specific impairment or aspects related to specific disability groups impact on how individuals assert control over their desired futures and employ digital media in this pursuit? Their presentation will incorporate examples from recent pilot studies and address key dilemmas in forthcoming research endeavors.
